Steve Grossman once told me that "one of the nice things about getting older is that you can be a mentor to promising young people and help them get their start in life."
Steve is the kind of mentor every young professional dreams of having. One of the things that continues to impress me about Steve is the way he follows up with people and always keeps his promises. When he talks to you, he makes you feel valued and important. He gets things done, accomplishes his initiatives with the utmost integrity and is never too busy to talk to someone in need.
I met Steve through a family friend after spending a year in Washington, DC where I had tried to launch my political career on Capitol Hill. I was frustrated and began to feel disillusioned about politics in general.
Meeting Steve Grossman is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Steve was there for me during a period of my life when I had lost confidence in myself and didn't know where to turn. He believed in me and empowered me to realize my own potential both personally and professionally. He offered to help me with my job search. I looked at all the pictures on the walls of him with the Clintons and the Kennedys and wondered "What could a former Chairman of the DNC possibly want to do with me? I don't have anything to offer him." Clearly, Steve proved me wrong. I soon realized that he was nothing like the politicians I had met in Washington. Steve wasn't helping me to get anything in return. He was doing so because he wanted to use the fruits of his success to help a young person get ahead. Thanks to Steve Grossman, I am now a successful professional living my dream of working in public service. I owe it all to him.
Steve Grossman has touched my life in a very real way and I know without a doubt that he will be an equally effective advocate for the people of Massachusetts. Because of him, I now know that there ARE people of his stature who are in politics for the right reasons, who genuinely want to help others and make a difference.
